Clipboard: Copy, Cut & Paste

CONCEPT: 
Allows user to copy information from one application to any other application that is running under Windows (D.O.S. or Windows applications). Copy once, Paste many. 

TERMS: 
Application - any software program. 
Clipboard - An electronic storage place in RAM where items COPIED or CUT are temporarily stored until something else is COPIED or CUT. (or until you exit Windows) 
Copy - copies selected item (text or graphics) to the clipboard, leaving selected item in its original location. 
SHORTCUT = CTRL + C or select Edit menu, then Copy. 
Cut - copies selected item (text or graphics) to the clipboard, deleting selected item from its original location. 
SHORTCUT = CTRL + X or select Edit menu, then Cut. 
Paste - copies contents of the clipboard (most recent cut or copy) to current application at the insertion point. 
SHORTCUT = CTRL + V or select Edit menu, then Paste. 

EXAMPLE: 
Copy a chart (graph) created in a spreadsheet program (Lotus 1-2-3, Excel, Quattro Pro, etc.) to a word processing program (Word Perfect, Word, WordPad, etc.) 

4 STEPS: 

  1. Select item to copy
  2. Copy item to the clipboard (click Edit, Copy or CTRL + C) NOTE: You can't tell that it has been copied, but it has.
  3. Click insertion point in second application where you want item inserted.
  4. Paste item from clipboard. (click Edit, Paste or CTRL + V)

  5. NOTE: You will now see the inserted item that was copied from clipboard.
Try other examples: Copy text from Notepad to WordPad document. Copy a Paintbrush graphic to a WordPad document. Paste three copies of anything in clipboard to a WordPad document - copy only once to the clipboard, then paste three different times.
